SALT LAKE CITY — If you get a call from the “state courts” saying you must immediately pay money or be arrested, it’s probably a scam.
The Utah State Courts is warning the public of a phone scam where callers are falsely using the main number for the Utah Court of Appeals as their callback number, according to a press release from state courts spokesperson Geoff Fattah.
Scammers claim they are FBI agents and demand people to send them money or they will be arrested.
The state courts and the court of appeals are state agencies, and have no affiliation with the FBI, Fattah said in the release.
If you or someone you know receive one of these calls, please contact your local law enforcement agency to report it.
